Mahāsthāmaprāpta Thangka Pendant

MahÃsthamaprapta
known as the Bodhisattva of Great Strength, is a significant figure in
Buddhism, especially within the Pure Land tradition. He is one of the two
principal attendant bodhisattvas of Amit a bha Buddha, the other being
Avalokitesvara. Referred to as the "Bodhisattva of Wisdom," his name
"Mah ā sth ā mapra pta" translates to "Great Strength" or "Supreme Power."
Wearing his image is believed to receive his guidance, eliminate difficulties,
and ultimately attain Buddhahood.

The Story of MahÃsthÃmaprapta Bodhisattva
In Buddhist legends, Mah ā sth ā maprapta Bodhisattva attained great
spiritual power through profound cultivation and wisdom. lt is said that he
vowed to assist all beings who sincerely recite Amita bha Buddha's name
to be reborn in the Western Pure Land. With his help, beings are no longer
troubled by ignorance and can be guided by wisdom toward Nirvana.

A famous story tells of how Mah ā sth ā maprāpta Bodhisattva assisted a
lost practitioner. This practitioner often encountered various troubles and
didn't know how to proceed. Mah ā sthā maprapta Bodhisattva appeared
to him with supreme wisdom and guided him with a method. He told the
practitioner, "Wisdom and firm faith are the keys to liberation. As long as
you maintain a pure heart and recite Amita bha Buddha's name, you will
not be lost and will ultimately attain liberation."

Following the Bodhisattva's teachings, the practitioner gradually achieved
inner purity and peace. Ultimately, he was reborn in the Western Pure
Land, attaining eternaliberation.
